The beginning. Initially, Sui of many many sites notified me of the availability of the subject. I signed up for the fanlisting with low hopes of approval. After the heavy hyperventilation and running tears that poured from reading the approval email from The Anime Fanlistings, I started what was dubbed Lemon and Sugar. Truthfully, it was very cluttered yet barren. The organization was off, and the site wasn't informative enough. I never fathomed how cumbersome it would be to manage the fanlisting, although I knew the fandom was still alive and kicking.
I sat down one day and pondered. Lemon and Sugar sounded childish, and I wanted it a tiny bit more mature. I looked up some words online and stumbled upon Chijin (知人). The meaning helped elevate the site to a more realistic perception of Eriol and Tomoyo's relationship since they are acquainted through the people they are familiar with, exchanging formalities when they meet one another. Seems precise, am I correct?
Once upon a time, the members were added by hand and soon, the myriad of applications started to attribute to my already-heightened stress levels. Of course, I made the transition from regular HTML to PHP Fanbase. The process was lengthy and painful but it's safe to say that I was content for the time being.
As for Aku, we became friends through Livejournal. Here's how you could sum up one of our AIM conversations.
Aku: I didn't know you had the Eriol/Tomoyo fanlisting!
Sasa: ... yeah? I didn't know you liked them!
Aku: I do!
Sasa: Consider yourself my new best friend. How about I let you co-own the fanlisting?
Aku: Really?
Sasa: You betcha.
She thought I was joking, but I certainly did live up to my word! Please don't assume that it was irrational decision because I was aware of Aku's experience with fanlistings and her great ways of implementing lovely feelings into words when she writes short drabbles that satisfy my bittersweet tooth for Eriol and Tomoyo writings. Having her help with updates now is superbly beneficial for the site and for me. Although she's preoccupied at times, she still manages to fulfill her duty as co-owner. Over time, I was starting to get frequent visitor comments that can be summed up to this. "It would be great if you had more information on here. You could maybe have a fanfiction recommendation page or write more about Eriol and Tomoyo?"
It never occurred to me that I could ever make Chijin into anything other than the fanlisting it was before. After discussing it with Aku, we decided that we would make Chijin bigger. I had done some research before and was a tad disappointed with the few Eriol/Tomoyo shrines I had found. They were either projects that were initialized eons ago and abandoned to rot on their active servers or frivolous colorful sites that are tainted with the occasional horrendous Japanese-plus-English fangirl jargon.
I would like to say that Chijin is neither of those kind of sites nor do I want it to be full of pictures, music and games. I am well aware that Eriol and Tomoyo are not romantically canon. I am also aware that Kaho does exist. I do not hate nor do I bash Kaho or the Eriol/Kaho couple. Everyone has a personal preference and I happen to have one that differs from what is canon. I'm sure that many other people do, too. This site is meant to display the... mature side of the Eriol/Tomoyo shipper. I doubt I'll ever do it successfully, but I could always die trying though.
